What Social Platforms You Should Focus On

WHERE should we show up in the world of social media?
With new social platforms popping up, seemingly, every day, it’s hard to know what’s what and where you should focus your time and energy.
The answer to that question is actually pretty simple.
You show up where you target market shows up.
Don’t waste your time trying to become an expert at TikTok if you know that your target marketing isn’t hanging out on TikTok.
Why should we spend our valuable resources on platforms that aren’t going to show us a return in new leads?
Now, I know what you’re thinking… How do I know where my target market is hanging out?
Easy! Ask your current clients!
Ask your, already paying, already engaged, clients what social media platforms do they spend their time on and chances are you’ll find others just like them eager for content just like yours.
Remember, like people attract like people.
If you don’t have pool of paying clients willing to answer that simple question (although, I believe more would help you out than you think would) here’s a quick cheat sheet of the demographics of popular social platforms:
Facebook demographics and usage
- # of monthly active users: 2.7 billion
- Largest age group: 25-34 (26.3%)
- Gender: 44% female, 56% male
Instagram demographics and usage
- # of monthly active users: 1 billion
- Largest age group: 25-34 (33.1%)
- Gender: 57% female, 43% male
Twitter demographics and usage
- # of daily active users: 187 million
- Largest age group: 30-49 (44%)
- Gender: 32% female, 68% male
LinkedIn demographics and usage
- # of total users: 738 million
- Largest age group: 46-55
- Gender: 51% male, 49% female
Pinterest demographics and usage
- # of monthly active users: 400+ million
- Largest age group: 30-49
- Gender: 78% female, 22% male
TikTok demographics and usage
- # of monthly active users: 100 million
- Largest age group: 18-24
- Gender: 59% female, 41% male
YouTube demographics and usage
- # of monthly active users: 2 billion
- Largest age group: 15-25
- Gender: 72% female, 72% male
