Why You Need to Get Rid of Your Gmail Email ASAP
Aug 02, 2020
We all know how easy it is to set up a new email address these days.
Visit Gmail.com, type in your desired email address, create a password, and DONE!
But before you run to Gmail to go set up your studio’s email address, I urge you to set up a personalized email address with your domain name.
Let’s talk about why you should do this, first, above all other email marketing changes you are going to make.
Professionalism
This is pretty simple. Which looks more professional?
[email protected] OR [email protected]
When you send an email from a gmail.com email address, it will come from the first and last name you set up the account with. When you set up a personalized email address from your domain you can easily set the sender name to be your studio’s name.
Which looks more professional?
Suzy Smith OR My Studio Name
SPAM Rating
This one is a biggie. When we send an email for our studio, we are often going to be sending bulk emails such as newsletters, studio reminders, promotional emails, etc. Chances are you are using some sort of email marketing platform to do this such as MailChimp, Constant Contact, Convertkit, etc.
Free email services, like Gmail or Yahoo, have policies in place that are meant to prevent email scams but can cause delivery issues for legitimate marketers. This means your emails are significantly more likely to end up going to your clients’ SPAM folders.
Can you say, “I just spent a ton of time sending an email that’s never going to be read?”.
Email Marketing Platforms
Since you’re probably sending bulk emails you probably want to choose the email marketing platform that is going to provide you with the best deliverability and open rates, right?
Well, the BEST of email marketing platforms, such as Convertkit, will not allow you to use a free email service. These platforms keep their conversion rates high by only allowing high-quality businesses to use their servers. This keeps their servers in good standing and your emails out of SPAM folders.
Free or budget email marketing platforms may allow you to use your free email marketing platform, but not without a warning and possibly some email redirects depending on the platform. The fact that they allow free email services on their platform automatically drives their servers deliverability rates down.
Have I convinced you yet?
If not, let me tell you this… it can be as low as $6 per month to have your own personalized email domain so WHY NOT? That’s like 1 cup of coffee a month.
All you have to do is set up a GSuite account, connect your domain, choose your email address, and done! You are on your way to high deliverability, better open rates, and more client conversions.
